Finally Seventeen!

So...2016 was a dud in my mythological list of great years.  My list of reasons and examples are far too great to share here, thus I will not.  Musically, this past year was tragic and disappointing for me.  We lost a starman, an eagle, a royal purple guitar god, and a pop father figure all in a span of one year. Personally, these were great loses in the music world. However, in my quest to not be melancholy and dwell on sorrowful topics, I will end my review of 2016 here and instead focus on the 14-day old new year.

One thing that I am looking forward to is bringing music back into my everyday life.  Not only does this mean downloading more music on my i-device (thanks for the gift card, "Stan"!), but seeing more live music.  From intimate clubs, to festival stages, and stadiums, there is nothing finer than experiencing music live. The number of shows I have attended has drastically dwindled in the past few years.  In 2016, that number was...wait for it...zero. So far, I have one show on my concert schedule and it's going to be an amazing one.  I am not going to name names, but I will give you a clue: firearms and flowers.

U2 is embarking on a new world tour, but sadly they are not making a stop here in NC. I am keeping my fingers crossed that they swing back through here.  Meanwhile, I will be jealous of my baby brother and lovely wife who are going to see them in FL.  I have such vivid memories of seeing them several years back with a dear friend. I even discovered an affinity for a band that I never heard of before who opened for U2 (Muse) and now I am a fan.  Overall, it was a magical and fantastic experience!

What are YOU looking forward to musically in 2017?  Concerts/performances?  New musical releases? Films or books about music?  Podcasts?  What do you hope to do to bring (or continue to bring) more music in to your life?

Dear readers (all 2 of you), I invite you to answer those questions by commenting below.  Please note that fans of ANY type of musical genre are welcome.  I am, after all, an equal-opportunity music-lover.  Case in point, I have been listening to Metallica, Taylor Swift, Lady Gaga, and America in the past few days.  I really look forward to hearing from you!

Until next time...keep it on "11"...

    1. Thanks for your comment and for reading, Roslyn! I would love to see that show too. Sadly, there is not a Raleigh show planned. CNN produce a documentary about Chicago that aired on New Year's Day. Have you seen it? If so, what did you think of it? I missed it but will try to catch it sometime.

  2. I'm glad you're back! I'm not sure I have hopes, musically and otherwise, for 2017. The Prince and the Duke have moved on, and I can no longer discern the low spark of high heeled boys. I'm getting too old and all my friends are heathens.

    1. Thanks for reading and commenting! You are so clever...love the juxtaposition between classic and contemporary...just listened to both songs (had heard the first one before long time ago...saw Steve Winwoood about 4 or 5 years ago and he was still amazing!). I am unfamiliar with Twenty-One Pilots but now am intrigued.

  3. There is nothing I am lookng forward to musically in 2017. I mostly listen to podcasts these days, but I do love hearing lyrics that catch my ear and seem coincidental but I know there is no such thing as that. Today I listened to this song that I "found" in an old blog post: "Everything" by Lifehouse and yesterday it was "Fearless" by Taylor Swift that I heard in th ebackground at Bruegger's not long after telling my Mom I just don't want to be afraid of any one or anything anymore :) But at least now you have three followers :)

  4. Hi Jackie! I appreciate you sharing your thoughts and for following me. What kind of podcasts do you listen to? I haven't listened to many podcasts, but the ones I heard are either music-related interviews or my friend's fab punk podcasts. Sometimes the universe provides us with things that we need to hear at a particular time. Cheers!

    1. Tara Brach is my favorite right now, but I also like "On Being with Krista Tippett" - Shannon recommended that on. "The Urban Monk" is another one I like, but haven't been keeping up with has much lately, and "The Way I Heard It" with Mike Rowe. His are super short, but more sporadic. The first ones I listened to were Bulletproof and other health/eating podcasts, but he (Dave Asprey) is getting kind of "out there". I have a number of YouTube subscriptions as well, but most recently have be enjoying the quiet of reading a darn book! :) Cheryl Strayed's Wild
