The Boys Are Back!
The unbelievable has happened--Van Halen announced yesterday that they will be recording a new album/record/CD with original lead singer, David Lee Roth. Yep, you read that correctly, folks. Not Sammy Hagar or Gary Cherone, but DIAMOND DAVE HIMSELF! I must admit that I was skeptical when Eddie, Alex, Wolfgang, and David Lee hit the road together last year for tour. They were many who didn't think the tour would get further than Charlotte, NC--the first city on the tour. Even as a longtime fan, I had to agree with the naysayers; I remember when David Lee was out of the band after 1984's 1984 and fans knew how strained the relationship between DL and the other band members was. Then, a new lead singer ushering in the "Van Hagar" era seemed to solidify that the classic lineup of Alex and Eddie Van Halen, Michael Anthony, and David Lee Roth was over for good. Sammy Hagar cut some albums and then was fired from the band. At that point, I thought that maybe David Lee would then return and all would well with the music world. Of course, that was not meant to be as Gary Cherone, former lead vocalist of Extreme, joined Van Halen. But alas, VH only made one album with him, so there was a little bit of hope lingering there. After that, the band (minus bassist Michael Anthony plus Eddie's son Wolfgang) embarked on the world tour and well, the rest is history...
