A Monday Surprise
No, the "Monday Surprise" is not that I managed to squeeze in another blog post for this month...
I'M GOING TO SEE U2 IN RALEIGH ON SATURDAY!!! Woohoo!
I truly lucked out on this one as my dear friend Lisa was given 2 tickets recently and asked me to accompany her. I have to admit that this is a dream come true: I've been a big fan of the band for over 25 years (yes, I am no spring chicken) and wasn't able to purchase tickets that I could afford for Saturday's concert. I waited too long to buy them and by then only the pricey seats were left.
My earliest memories of U2 date back to 1983, when MTV (when they were all about music, really!) broadcasted U2's show at Red Rocks in Colorado the same year. I must admit that concert had me positively memsmerized: the almost militaristic-sounding drums of "Sunday Bloody Sunday", Bono flying the Irish flag (at least that what I remember from my then 14 year old brain), and the flames shooting out of the rocks at the venue. As a young teenager just 2 years into being a certified rock gurl, I had never seen anything quite like them before. Yep, I was instantly hooked on their guitar-driven tunes, their intelligent and often times political lyrics, and their youthful confidence that they were something to be reckoned with. Okay, okay, I was also a bit smitten by front man Bono. I mean, any singer that went by the self-given moniker "Bono Vox" had some serious attitude. Fortunately, he had the talent to back up his proclamation.
More to come about the band as this is Irish-Appreciation Week here at SRM headquarters...let's all hoist our pints of Guinness to honor this completely original, still amazing (after more than 25 years of music) collective know as U2.
Many thanks to Lisa for making this an incredible beginning of the week...OMG!
Until next time, keep it on "11"...
