Straight from the "Heart" (or How the Wilson Sisters Rescued Me)
Life always presents lots of surprises; some are are good and some are just plain horrible. Well, my Friday the 13th (of August) delivered some heartbreaking news and I just knew that nothing could deliver me from my pain. I am still utterly miserable almost two weeks later. However, my mood was elevated for a brief, but magical time on Saturday the 14th when Heart hit the stage at the Raleigh Ampitheatre. Ann and Nancy Wilson were my angels that evening for rocking me out of my sorrow with an electrifying performance that sits high upon my list of live shows.
Since I am still working through the things that happened to me, my ability to write something somewhat intelligible has been affected. In order to maintain the high quality of journalism here at the Suburban Rock Mom headquarters, I have a special guest to review the Heart concert in my place. So, without futher ado, here's Mr. Suburban Rock Mom (my husband of course) with his thoughts on the show.

Heart put on a fantastic show in Raleigh last night. Ann Wilson has one of the greatest rock voices over and put it on vivid display last night. She displayed incredible range and power in all of her vocals. Nancy was energetic on stage and the band was tight. I'm not a big fan of most of the 80s material, so I was pleased that the set was dominated by their songs from their 70s recordings. They played some new material from their forthcoming album "Red Velvet Car" which was good too, especially the title cut. The crowd really locked in when they pounded out classics like Crazy on You, Magic Man, Barracuda, and Straight On. They closed the show with an encore of covers from Zeppelin (What Is and What Should Never Be) and the Who (Love Reign O'er Me). The latter blew me away and (in my view) surpassed the original which is no easy feat.
Until next time, keep it on "11"...
