I Don't Hate Mondays
Monday is probably the most dreaded day of the week for most people. I know that around my homestead Mondays are as popular as getting socks for Christmas. While I will not regale you with tales of wailing and gnashing of teeth, I can say that one of the events of last Monday may have changed my mind about this unpopular time of the week.
Picture this: I am at work talking to someone outside of my cubicle when my personal cell phone rings. Since I am not accustomed to hearing it ring (since it is used more for emergencies), I was a bit worried what was going to greet me on the other end. Instead of hearing bad news, I was cheerily greeted by 96 Rock jock Alli Morgan (for readers outside of the Raleigh-Durham NC area it's a local radio station). She quickly informed me that she had chosen the three songs I submitted for her noontime feature, "Class Reunion Lunch". Basically, you email her three songs released the year you graduated high school. If she picks your selections, she'll feature the songs on radio as award you a free lunch. While the free food is attractive, getting to pick songs to be heard on the airways is the prize to me. Of course, the bonus is that Alli recorded me introducing myself and the songs to go along with the noon broadcast. Excitedly, I announced my songs from 1987:
1. U2-Bullet the Blue Sky
2. The Beastie Boys-No Sleep Til Brooklyn
3. The Cult-Love Removal Machine
After getting off of the phone, I told my co-workers what had transpired. At noon, one of my terrific co-workers, Ric, let me listen to the broadcast with him in his cubicle (he saved the day for having a radio in the office so I wouldn't have to sit in my car and listen!). It was such a great way to chase away the Monday blahs!
Until next time, keep it on "11"...
Sincerely yours,
Suburban Rock Mom, Class of '87
