More Evidence of Aging?
At my age, I expect to see some fine lines surrounding my eyes and a few grey hairs peppering my long brown locks. However, what happened the other day, I did not expect.
To give you some perspective, back in the '80s, I was a huge fan of British band The Cure. Back in 1985, I became an avid listener upon their release of the classic Head on the Door. I was instantly hooked after hearing "Close to Me" and "Inbetween Days". At this time in my life, I prided myself in that they were not a commercially well-known band and that only the coolest of cool people (at least to me!) at West Orange High School listened to them.
Okay, let's go back to the modern day. So yesterday, I was driving in the car listening to the radio when I suddenly heard a Cure song. I instantly perked up, even though the song wasn't a fave of mine since it was more of their commercial-flavored singles from the early '90s. No matter, as I felt young and vibrant again with hearing something I associated with my youth. Then it hit me: what radio station is playing The Cure? Did I stumble upon some kind of underground station that a Gen X-er created out of his or her suburban home? Since I knew this was not probable, I cautiously glanced at the radio tuner display. What I saw was unthinkable, even horrifying: I was listening to an "oldies" station!
Methinks I will stick to my iPod and CDs in my car so that I do not have another frightful moment. I don't think my ticker could take that kind of shock to my system!
Until next time, keep it on "11"...
