Rhymin & Stealin in the Great Beyond: RIP MCA

This week, we lost Adam Yauch (better known as MCA) of the fabulous Beastie Boys, at the young age of 47 to cancer.  As a very saddened fan, I could go on and on about the many thoughts I have on the Beasties such as:
  • They remain one of the music world's most original acts to emerge in past 30 years
  • Their far-reaching influence in rap, hip hop, rock, and pop is astounding
  • "Fight for Your Right (To Party) is one of the best rebellious youth anthems EVER
  • The video for "Sabotage" is still mesmerizing and hilarious after all these years--hey, if you grew up on 70s cop shows like me, you'd love it too!
  • How they provided me one of the most memorable evenings in my life as a 17 year old driving through the rain from Orlando to Daytona Beach in search of a rumored Beastie Boys concert.  No concert, but lots of fun looking for it with great friends.  I swear it was completely innocent, mom!
However, I guess what I'd really like to express that MCA's brilliance, wit, and talent will be greatly missed.

Until next time, keep it on "11" (preferably listening to Licensed to Ill)...

  1. What? You were driving to Daytona in the "rain" - looking for a concert? Who were your partners in "doing something" YOUR mother wouldn't approve of? Signed, YOUR mother!!!!
